Teaching Objectives :
1.
Students are able to understand the cultural issue in the story
2.
Students are able to list down the differences between main the character’s
attitude and the attitude of the community/culture.
Steps in Teaching:
Pre-reading (Duration: 5 minutes)

The
teacher shows a video trailer of a film titled ‘Perfume: Story of a Murderer’
(please refer material 1).

To
allow the students to refresh their schemata and make initial observation
about the content of the video.

|
The
teacher asks if any student in the class have watched the movie. The teacher
then asks if the students can guess what they will be learning in the lesson.
|
To
observe students’ schemata and to identify whether the students are able to
grasp the content of the video in a short period.
|
While-reading (Duration: 30 minutes)

teacher asks each student to take out their literature component textbook and
turn to page 31.

To
make sure that each student have their own material. Those who fail to do so
must share with their friends.

The
teacher asks for a volunteer among the students to give summary on the story’s
plot sequence. Teacher may correct the students if he or she makes any
mistake.
|
To
ensure the students are refreshed with the content of the story so that they
will not be clueless during the discussion.
|

|
The
teacher asks volunteer(s) to share with the class how they would describe the
culture in the story.
|
To
allow the students to express their opinions about the community and cultural
issues pointed out in the story.

The
teacher groups the class into a four to six person per group. The teacher
asks each group to list down what are the culture of the community in the
story and how the main character, Anna reacts towards the culture.
|
To
allow students to brainstorm in a group in identifying what are the cultural
background in the story and how the culture affects the main character’s
life.
|

|
The
teacher asks each group to present their findings. Teacher may correct the
students if he or she makes any mistake.
|
Each
group are given a chance to share with the class what they have identified
and also what are others’ opinions.
